Dinu Patriciu, one of the richest business men in Romania, former leader of the Liberal Party (governing party at present), close friend of the Prime-Minister Tariceanu, is the president of Rompetrol, the biggest private company in oil business. Since 2004 Patriciu is under investigation together with some members of Rompetrol board, being charged with corruption - in connection with the privatization of Petromidia, and stock exchange manipulation. The damage is estimated at 300 mill $, and the case is the widely covered by mass media, due to its implications in the business environment, justice and politics. Dozens of politicians (including Prime-Minister Tariceanu), business men and media leaders have their bank accounts checked in connection to this case. When Patriciu was retained by prosecutors, Prime-Minister Tariceanu called the former Attorney General Ilie Botos. Following the political pressures in this case no progress is made by judicial power in solving it.
