The Prosecutors’s Office by the High Court of Cassation and Justice is investigating 4 prosecutors of the same institution for the crime of protection given to the offender. The businessman Stefan Rizea, arrested both in 1998 and 2000, had been investigated for fiscal evasion and fraud, the prejudice amounting to 8 million $. The 4 prosecutors delayed the case so much that eventually the penal liability was set aside by limitation, apparently in exchange of 500,000 $ according to judicial sources. One of the 4 prosecutors is Gheorghe Muscalu, former Head of the Direction for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism, whose name disappeared from the file before the investigation was finalized.
